Tablet time clock

Turn a tablet into your team's time clock

Set an iPad by the door or on the counter. Employees tap Clock In, type their PIN, and they're on the clock against today's schedule. Lunches and clock-outs work the same way.

The kiosk is on Pro. New teams get 14 days of Pro free, no credit card.

Updated

The kiosk's home screen. Employees choose an action, then enter their PIN.

At the kiosk

Four screens, and most people only see the first three.

This is the iPad kiosk. If someone picks an action that doesn't fit, like Start Lunch before they've clocked in, the kiosk says so after the PIN and asks them to choose another.

  1. Step 1

    Pick what you're doing

Clock In, Start Lunch, End Lunch or Clock Out. Big buttons, no menus.

  2. Step 2

    Enter your PIN

The kiosk looks the person up from the PIN alone. No login, no personal phone.

  3. Step 3

    See it land

Name, the shift the punch was matched to, and the time. Then the screen resets for the next person.

  4. Step 4

    Check your hours

Review Timestamps lists your own punches for two weeks and lets you request a fix.

Tied to the schedule

A punch at the kiosk knows which shift it belongs to.

The kiosk and the schedule are the same product. A clock-in is matched to the person's shift for that day, so your timesheet shows scheduled and actual times side by side.

Late
A clock-in more than 5 minutes after the scheduled start is recorded as late, with the minutes. The grace period is a setting.
No shift today
The person is still clocked in, the record is marked unscheduled, and you get an alert. You can switch unscheduled clock-ins off.
Lunch
Start Lunch and End Lunch are punches too. Unpaid break minutes come off paid hours on the timesheet.

Corrections

Employees can ask for a fix without finding you first.

Someone forgot to clock out yesterday. At the iPad kiosk they open Review Timestamps, enter their PIN, find the day and tap Request Edit with the right time and a reason.

Their records only
The PIN decides whose time log opens. Nobody can see a coworker's punches at the kiosk.
You decide
The request lands with your other attendance alerts. Approve it and the record changes, with the original time kept in its history. Deny it and nothing changes.
One request per punch
A second tap on the same punch while the first request is open is refused, so you don't get duplicates.

Setting it up

Pair the tablet once. It stays paired.

You'll need a Pro team (or the trial), the tablet, and about five minutes.

Create the kiosk
From Kiosks on the dashboard. You get a one-time setup link that works for 30 minutes.
Open it on the tablet
The tablet pairs and shows the kiosk. It survives reloads and restarts; you re-register it every 30 days.
Give out PINs
Each employee gets a clock-in PIN of 4 to 6 digits. A manager can reset one from the dashboard.
Manager exit
A small Manager exit link and your admin PIN pause the kiosk at closing time without un-pairing it.
No connection
If the tablet loses the internet it shows a connection screen with a retry button instead of taking punches it can't save.
No phone location
Kiosk punches don't use anyone's phone, so no location is recorded. GPS zones apply to app and browser punches.

The full setup walkthrough, including where to put the tablet, is in the time clock kiosk guide.

FAQ

Questions worth answering up front.

An iPad running the Zchedule app, or any tablet with a web browser. On the iPad app the employee picks an action and then enters their PIN; the browser kiosk asks for the PIN first. Both record the same punches.

Each person has their own numeric clock-in PIN, 4 digits by default and up to 6. A manager can reset it from the dashboard if someone forgets it.

Only with that coworker's PIN. The kiosk shows the name and the shift after the PIN is entered, so a wrong PIN is visible on the spot, and every punch is recorded with the kiosk it came from.

The kiosk stops taking punches and shows a connection screen with a retry button. It does not store punches it can't save, so nothing turns up later with the wrong time.

On the iPad kiosk they can ask. Review Timestamps shows their own punches from the last 14 days, and Request Edit sends a correction to a manager. Nothing on the record changes until a manager approves it.

Pro. Every new team gets 14 days of Pro, so you can set up a kiosk and try it with your team before you pay anything.
